Laboratory of basic and applied superconductivity, electronic properties of metals
The main scientific and technological problems - search and study of new effects in superconductors and normal metals and alloys; study of the magnetic properties of soft and hard magnetic at deformations, irradiation, hydrogen saturation; study of the peculiarities of transport processes in granular media.
History of the laboratory.
The laboratory was founded as one of the first in the Ukrainian Institute of Physics and Technology, from 1931 to 1937 it was headed by L.V.Shubnikov. Under his leadership in the laboratory for the first time in the USSR were liquefied hydrogen and helium. From 1937 to 2001 the laboratory headed by Academicians B.G.Lazarev. In the laboratory worked Academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences N.E.Alekseevsky, L.F.Vereschagin, Academician of NAS of Ukraine B.I.Verkin, A.A.Galkin, I.M.Dmitrenko, Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine V.I.Khotkevich. In the laboratory was firstly measured the magnetic moment of the proton, discovered of the second kind superconductivity, experimentally discovered the phenomenon of electron-topological phase transitions, achieved extremely high critical currents in technical superconductors.
